Judge Matthew Thornhill, a Missouri judge for the St. Charles County Circuit, resigned last Friday after a disciplinary committee found that he routinely wore an Elvis wig to court, quoted Elvis during hearings and even played Elvis’ records during swearing-in ceremonies, all from the comfort of his bench.
According to the committee, the Elvis-loving judge “failed to maintain order and decorum in the courtroom,” as he often appeared dressed as Elvis and had a knack for bringing up the king during criminal trials.

When pressed on why he chose to impersonate Elvis during court, Thornhill said it was an attempt to add “levity” to the courtroom.
