If you needed another reason to not eat the ocean slime.

Oyster eaters, beware. NBC News reports that several diners in Louisiana have been impacted by the flesh-eating Vibrio vulnificus bacterium. This naturally-occurring bacterium, which is generally found in warm, coastal waters between the months of May and October, has found its way into oysters and is now making diners incredibly ill.
Two have already passed away from eating raw oysters contaminated with this bacteria, and the Louisiana Health Department notes that “about one in five people with this infection dies, sometimes within a day or two of becoming ill.”
What can you do about it? Well, you can cook the oysters like some sort of weirdo — or, alternatively, you can just stop eating oysters and switch to a seafood that’s actually, you know, nice.
