Google Searches for 'Hamburger Helper' Reach Five-Year High

Soon it will be “how to cook can of beans over fire.”

Have you tried to buy, well, *anything* in the past decade? Everything is worse quality, more expensive and half the size it used to be. Add to that the humiliation of asking to get things out from behind a glass case, and it really makes you want to move out to the woods to become one of those “Primitive Construction” YouTube channels.

However, most of us can’t do that (lazy). Instead, we’re responding to the general crappiness of the current moment by trying to save money any way we can. For example, many are trying to spend a little less money at the grocery store — and that means turning back to an American classic: Hamburger Helper.

That’s right — the single dad’s favorite is now becoming a household staple, with Google searches for the brand reaching a 5-year high. Eagle Foods, the company that actually makes Hamburger Helper, told Fox News Digital that year-over-year sales rose 14.5% in August.

Why Hamburger Helper and not one of the many other boxed products? Who knows, but I would guess price and nostalgia have something to do with it. At least it’s better than when they were trying to tell us that “breakfast cereal” was an acceptable dinner.
