Spencer (@SBmowing on TikTok) is promoting his landscaping business by lending a hand to homeowners with overgrown lawns, offering to mow and take care of their yard work for free. His videos start by introducing each yard, detailing what needs to be done to clean them up, and showing him knocking on the homeowner’s door where he asks them if he can do the work for them, free of charge.

His TikTok account unsurprisingly has over 5.5 million followers, because the transformations are addicting to watch and the act of helping other people is a wholesome break from other content on the platform.

In a video with over 56 million views, he saw a sidewalk that was completely covered with mud and overgrown grass. He then spent nearly four hours pressuring washing away the dirt much to the surprise of passing neighbors who “had no idea the sidewalk even existed.” He explains “I'm so happy I could do this work because not only does it really increase the curb appeal for the homeowners but it allows all the neighbors to actually access the sidewalk.”

After finishing up his work the homeowner, embarrassed by how bad it had gotten, asked “Why me” to which he responded, “Because it looked bad.”

People in the comments debate whether or not it’s the city or homeowner’s responsibility to clean sidewalks, while others share gratitude for the way he helps people. @omg_jess wrote “She seemed so embarrassed. I hope she’s doing ok and feels some relief that this is done. Thank you for helping her.”

He doesn’t just help homeowners, but he also cleans up yards of abandoned houses after asking surrounding neighbors if they know if anyone lives in the houses.

“I have not a penny to my name, I don’t give a hoot or a toot” one homeowner thankfully responded after Spencer offered to transform his yard for free.

In another comment, @8rapeape8 explained that these acts of service might come as a surprise to some, saying, “I think [home] owners seem so ungrateful is because they think there’s going to be a catch like he’s going to ask for money at the end.”

While some homeowners seem nonchalant about being helped, others are very appreciative. In a recent video, a lucky homeowner who had just moved in hadn’t cleaned up her yard yet because she wasn’t able to buy a mower.

Well, this woman was so appreciative that she brought him snacks and drinks while he worked. He explained, “People rarely do this for me so I thought I'd give her a huge surprise.” In a follow-up video, he surprised her by gifting her his fancy, seated mower.

While social media altruism is typically frowned upon (looking at you people who film themselves feeding the homeless), helping people – even though it’s in promotion of his business and TikTok channel – isn’t the worst thing we’ve seen on TikTok, so this guy and his free lawn services get a pass from us.
