Every year around October 20th, Google searches for “inflatable costume” begin to climb, which makes sense, because Halloween is right around the corner. But this year, searches for “inflatable costume” and “inflatable frog costume” have already blown past their yearly highs, and it has nothing to do with Halloween.
This weekend, on October 18th, protestors will gather for another “No Kings” rally in the United States and around the globe to voice their opposition to Donald Trump and his administration. The march, dubbed “Operation Inflation,” won’t feature thousands of black bloc members wearing balaklavas, but rather an army of people in inflatable suits.

Operation Inflation started in Portland, Oregon, a few weeks ago when protestors showed up outside DHS facilities dressed as inflatable frogs and unicorns in an attempt to subvert the narrative that Portland was full of violent criminals. And apparently, the tactic has caught on.
So, if you’re trying to dress up as an inflatable Yoshi with a Mario on your back this Halloween, buy your costume now before it sells out.
