It’s Not Just You: Gastroenterologists Officially Confirm That Vacation Poops Are the Worst
Turns out everyone poops worse on vacation.

Have you ever been traveling and thought, “Hey, I’m spending a lot of uncomfortable time in the bathroom. What’s up with that?”
Surprisingly, it’s not just because you spent the past three days eating nothing but fried food and drinking through your hotel’s stock of cheap bottles. As explained by a recent piece in the Washington Post, there are several reasons why people find themselves wrecking the hotel toilet more often than they do their own.
First, most people have a set bathroom routine. When you travel, that routine gets thrown for a loop, and consequently, your body begins to freak out a little bit. This can give even the most adventurous poopers “poop anxiety,” which results in them holding it in until it all spills out disastrously.
Second, your diet also radically changes on vacation. You typically drink less water, eat more carb-rich foods and over-indulge at restaurants. Pair that with less frequent trips to the gym, and you’ve got a surefire recipe for a restroom disaster.
If you’re planning a trip and are concerned about this, experts advise supplementing with fiber and, if things get bad, taking a mild laxative. That, and you should probably prepare an apology letter for your hotel room’s cleaning staff.
