Jane Goodall, the world-famous primatologist and anthropologist, sadly passed away yesterday at the age of 91, and the internet has been remembering her years of dedication to preserving and studying our primate cousins.

Goodall, who was the first scientist to give her subjects names instead of numbers, lived as she preached — caring deeply for others and the beautiful creatures of our world.

According to an interview with GQ in 2021, that care even extended to Bigfoot. When asked if she gave any credence to the Bigfoot myth, Goodall responded saying, “I don’t know. But I’m not going to say it doesn’t exist, and I’m not going to say people who believe in it are stupid."

In the interview, she recounted a trip she took to a remote village in Ecuador where she asked villagers if they’d ever “seen a monkey without a tail,” and they responded with a resounding, “Yeah, we see those all the time.” Goodall argued that “every single country has its version” of the Bigfoot myth and that it would be silly to disregard these stories as conspiracy.

So next time you’re having a debate over Bigfoot, just remember, Jane Goodall is on your side.
