Japan’s New Big Trend? Grandma Rentals
Love home cooking? Why not hire a grandma to do it for you?

For every skill a generation gains, it seems they lose a few more. For example, the young people of today are much better at programming than I will ever be, but they also can’t write in cursive to save their lives, so… I guess we’re even?
Most of the time, when a skill like this fades away, it’s not the biggest deal, as the skill wasn’t really needed in the first place. But if you end up needing to do something that involves one of these older skills, what do you do?
Well, if you live in Japan, you call a grandma.
The service, called OK Obaachan, allows you to hire a grandma for around $23 an hour. During that time, they can cook for you, write nice notes for you, babysit or even break up with your boyfriend to you. He won’t be as upset about the breakup if it’s done by an 80-year-old woman!
Currently, the service has around 100 women aged 60 to 94 under their employ, but if this service proves popular, that number could increase.
Would you try it?
