Jay Z Blasted for Claiming His New Casino Project Would ‘Uplift Working-Class Communities’

Jay Z’s bid to open a casino in Times Square was struck down yesterday when a citizen advisory committee nixed the project in a 4-2 vote that argued the plan would hurt Broadway theaters, which have long been a draw for tourists visiting New York City.
The $5 billion project — backed by SL Green, Caesars and Jay Z’s Roc Nation — would have seen a Caesars Palace built in the center of Times Square.
In a new interview, Jay-Z discussed how to make the Casino project beneficial to Black and working-class communities that have historically been impacted by gambling and gambling addiction

Despite promising “long-term community investment” and “opportunities that can shift culture while uplifting communities,” nobody was buying Jay Z’s promise that a casino would help “Black and working-class communities” and “bring positive, lasting benefits through meaningful partnerships and investments.”
