That’s not very nice.

The New York Times released two major stories yesterday on the accused UnitedHealthcare assassin, Luigi Mangione. Along with a detailed report about Mangione’s four-month trip through Asia, the Times published Mangione’s personal diary.

In a journal entry dated October 22, Mangione writes, “1.5 months. This investor summit is a true windfall. It embodies everything wrong with our health system, and most importantly, the message becomes self-evident.” In another entry dated August 15, he complains that San Francisco is “crazy slow” and writes that he “finally feel[s] confident about what I will do.”

Mangione makes several references to Ted Kaczynski, referring to him as “Ted K,” reflecting on how “normies” often misunderstand revolutionary acts because their messages aren’t direct enough. He criticizes Kaczynski for indiscriminately sending mail bombs to “innocents,” and blames him for allowing his critics to label him a “monster,” even though he has some “good ideas.”

Mangione was clearly preoccupied with his public image. Above all else, it appears he wanted his message to be seen as an act of “revolution,” not “terrorism.”
