A man in Florida (of course) was hospitalized after he tried to take a photo with a shark and ended up getting bitten by it.

According to local affiliate ABC17, Shawn Meuse was celebrating his birthday with a fishing trip. When one of his buddies caught a lemon shark, he tried to hold it for a photo — and was promptly bitten.

Emergency crews were able to airlift him to a hospital, where he’s currently being treated.

Just in case you were wondering, Florida officials ask that you please not remove lemon sharks from the water, and if you’re going to fish for them, you need to take a class, which Meuse didn’t take.

Still, Meuse is happy to be alive. “You don’t know what a wild animal is going to do, you know? So that happens, we’re in his territory during this,” he said to news crews. “I’m unlucky or lucky at the same time? Because, you know, if it was a few inches one way, you know, I might not be here.”
