A Japanese man identified as Nino paid the equivalent of $4,000 to go on a date with a former pop idol (don’t ask, it’s a thing over there). The date apparently went well: Nino, the idol, and her so-called bodyguard spent the day at Disneyland, with Nino footing the entire bill.

However, after the date ended, Nino discovered that the man who had been protecting her the whole time was not actually hired security, but her husband.

“My favorite idol not only hid her marriage, but her husband came along — and I paid for all three of us,” Nino wrote in an internet post. “I can’t believe I paid for her husband’s Disneyland trip.”

The idol has since issued an apology that did not confirm whether she was actually married to the man (which isn’t that surprising — there’s considerable pressure on idols to appear perpetually single).

Overall, it’s a tough break for Nino. Maybe he can make it up to himself by taking another trip to Disneyland — I hear Minnie’s single!
