No One Dared to Touch James Gandolfini’s Meatballs on the Set of ‘The Sopranos’

Never get between an Italian man and his meatballs.

According to an episode of Are You a Charlotte?, Kristin Davis’ Sex and the City rewatch podcast, both her show and The Sopranos shared many of the same studios while shooting. This meant that resources were often pooled — except for the apparently quite delicious Sopranos craft services.

“We would just be like, ‘How can we get over there and get the food?’ And they would guard that food. They’d be like, ‘No. You can’t come over here.’ And we’d be like, ‘Please, can we have some meatballs?’” Davis recalls.

Additionally, Davis revealed that, while most productions use “spit buckets” for actors that allow them to eat food on camera across multiple takes, the cast of The Sopranos would often just gorge themselves on whatever Italian cuisine they were supposed to be eating in the show.

“They said, ‘They just eat everything.’ So we did, like, four takes and they would eat four meals,” recalls director Allen Coulter.

Sounds like a pretty good life to me!
