And no, this isn’t a forward from your Grandma — they may actually have a point.

In case you missed it, YouTuber MrBeast announced that he would be building a theme park called “Beast Land.” The catch? It’s in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, a place with a history of human rights abuses and an average summer temperature of 110 degree Fahrenheit. Guess it’s going to be an indoor amusement park!

When this news was posted online, commenters were quick to express concern. Some pointed out that Saudi Arabia very recently went “Beast mode” on a dissident journalist by slicing him to bits; others questioned whether it was wise to partner with the country with links to the 9/11 hijackers. And many asked the obvious question: does that mean MrBeast’s new theme park is going to be under Sharia Law?

I know, on the surface, it sounds pretty stupid — one of those things your gullible cousin posts on NextDoor after a man in a keffiyeh asks them for directions. But in this case, it may actually be true.

To provide some brief context that you probably never thought you’d get from eBaum’s World, Saudi Arabian law is based on an interpretation of Islamic Law derived from the Quran and other teachings of the prophet Muhammad, known as Sharia Law. That said, countries claiming to be under Sharia Law could each have completely different rules and regulations based on their own interpretations of the aforementioned texts. Got it? Good.

While Saudi Arabia has recently codified and relaxed some of its laws, Sharia remains the foundation. And since Beast Land will operate within the Kingdom, along with website for Beast Land stating that attendance requires “adherence to the rules of public taste in line with the culture, values, and tradition of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” many people are coming to the reasonable conclusion that Beast Land will not only be the world’s first YouTuber Amusement Park, but the first one under Sharia Law.
