Nusret Gökçe, otherwise known as Salt Bae, sparked outrage on the internet when he posted a photo to his Instagram account bragging about how much expensive food a diner bought. The total bill was around 615,000 dirhams which are around $170,000 US dollars.

The bill included two gold-leaf covered steaks which were estimated at around $2,500 dollars, two golden Ottoman steaks at $1,500 dollars, and two beef tenderloins costing around $1,200 dollars.

Along with appetizers and a copious amount of alcohol, it looks like the diners were going to be spending over a hundred thousand dollars on drinks alone. Salt Bae is charging around $15 dollars for a single bottle of Heinekin at his restaurant.

Salt Bae captioned his post, "Quality never expensive." Then came the criticism from his followers. Most were questioning the quality when a lot of the food is wrapped in edible gold foil. Some were angrier at the inflated price of alcohol.

One person commented, "55 bucks for a Heineken just so u can ruin the meal with gold leaf and drop salt through your hairy arms."

Most people were upset that he was charging so much when there are people all over the world starving and in poverty.

"There are about 98 million people below the poverty line, homeless, and you are spreading lies?!!! what is the purpose behind publishing such things? I will unfollow you and I hope so from everyone to do the same ... shame on you," someone commented

Some people felt that the customers were to blame, however, commenting on the fact that they knew what they were getting into when they decided to eat at his restaurant.

One person said, "I'm not commenting on the price cos that's been established as largely from alcohol that these people specifically selected."

Multiple celebrities from Leonardo DiCaprio to DJ Khaled have dined at Salt Bae's restaurant since he became somewhat of a celebrity himself back in 2017 from an iconic social media post of the strange way he sprinkles salt over the expensive meat he cooks.
