Should Airplanes Have Airbags?

Flying is already the safest way to travel.

Well, two scientists from Dubai have an idea to try to make it even safer. Project REBIRTH is an “A.I.-powered crash survival system,” which in layman’s terms means “airbag.” The idea is this: What if airplanes had airbags, but not just any airbag, airbags controlled by A.I. that puff up when they detect a system failure.

The biggest issue, of course, is that designing an airbag big enough to cushion a falling 747 would have to be massive, and that would make planes far too heavy and greatly increase the danger of flying, which, again, is already the safest way to travel.
