Something Is Turning Wild Pigs in California Neon Blue

That’s not supposed to happen, I don’t think.

People hunting pigs in California have noticed something strange happening. After annihilating the beast and cutting it open, they’re discovering that the animal’s muscle tissue has turned blue.

We’re not talking like a light shade of blue, either. This is full Avatar, Blue Man Group levels of blue, all right beneath the pig’s skin.

Why?

The current theory is that the pigs are consuming a heavily-regulated form of rodenticide with a deep blue color, and somehow, this is causing their fat and muscle fibers to change colors as well. This is also contaminating the meat, so if you thought you might be able to enjoy a Dr. Seuss-style pork chop sometime soon, think again.

Wildlife groups have since pushed for greater regulation of these rodenticides, and efforts are being made to ensure no one tries to consume the blue meat.
