I don’t know if that speaks worse of her or him.

One of the creepier uses for AI that people are apparently not ashamed about is using it for companionship. In fact, some people are so lonely that they’re programming AIs to simulate their loved ones and talking to them in place of the actual person.
Someone who recently admitted to doing this is Alan Hamel, widow of actor and fitness icon Suzane Somers. According to him, he’s created an AI program that simulates Somers. It uses her image and “27 books and a lot of interviews that she has done, hundreds of interviews” to create a digital analogue. According to Hamel, it was Somers’ idea — and he’s thrilled with the results.
“It was Suzanne. And I asked her a few questions and she answered them, and it blew me and everybody else away,” Hamel, 89, told People. “When you look at the finished one next to the real Suzanne, you can’t tell the difference. It’s amazing.”
According to Hamel, the program will soon be accessible to the public — for better or for worse.
