Teachers Are Begging Kids to Stop Hacking Into Their Schools’ Computers for Fun
Ha ha, very funny, but we actually need to use these computers!

If you went to school before the advent of smartphones, you might not realize just how computer-centric modern schooling is. Kids play on their phones openly, and many assignments are made that can only be performed on a computer. Plus, when it comes time to actually grade the stuff, gone are the gradebooks — everything’s online for each student and parent to see!
However, this new educational system isn’t all smooth sailing. As recently reported by TechCrunch, schools in the U.K. have a growing problem of children hacking into their schools’ computer systems just for the heck of it.
A new report from the country’s Information Commissioner’s Office found 215 data breach reports resulting from security incidents originating from inside schools, and of those, over half were performed by students.
Most of the time, this involved guessing a password or finding login details written down somewhere. However, the report found that students occasionally employed more sophisticated methods to break through school security.
Why are they doing this? The report says “dares, notoriety, money, revenge and rivalries” are among the reasons why students are hacking into their schools’ computers. Now, teachers and administrators have become tired of it, and there’s a growing effort to improve cybersecurity to get kids to stop hacking.
Still, there’s no talk of going back to pens and paper — let’s not get crazy here!
