If you’ve noticed that weather forecasts are wrong recently, or if you’ve seen a ton of spotted bugs in your area, there’s a good reason. The invasive “spotted lanternfly” has become such a problem in this country that it’s screwing with our ability to predict weather.

According to the Washington Post, there were so many lanternflies in the northeast on Thursday that the area showed up as a cloud and potential spot for rainstorms. However, as should be clear by now, there were no clouds — just lots and lots of lanternflies.

So, how can you help? Kill as many of these flies as possible, that’s how. Apart from that, just be ready to not trust your weather app ever again.
