TikTokers Are Using A.I. to Summarize Famous Books, Then Saying They’ve Read Them
See, *I* would call that “not reading.”

People read for all sorts of reasons. Admittedly, one of those reasons is to tell other people that you read, which makes you feel nice and special and better than everyone else. You think you’re better than me? Try telling that to my well-worn copy of Normal People!
The problem is, for people looking for every life experience to come with a dopamine spike, reading itself can be, well, boring. That’s why TikTokers have come up with a solution: Get an A.I. to summarize a book, listen to the summary and then tell people that you’ve read it.
Does it take away from the magic? You tell me: “The Great Gatsby is a tragic tale of wealth, obsession and the hollowness of the American Dream, told through narrator Nick Carraway as he witnesses Jay Gatsby’s doomed pursuit of love and status in 1920s New York.”
See? Just like the real thing!
Personally, I think that if you want to read a book, you should just read it. But, if you don’t want to read a book, you can just not do it — no one is forcing you!
