For some reason, card gamers have a negative reputation when it comes to personal hygiene. Well, I say “for some reason,” but we all know why this is the case: A lot of them just don’t know how to clean themselves, God bless ‘em!

Now, a Japanese cosmetics company is trying to change that image by crowdfunding a soap specifically designed for gamers.

To be clear, this really is a necessity. One card shop in Akihabara, Tokyo had to put out a statement in 2023 clarifying that guests should bathe before coming to the store, and that they reserve the right to remove those who smell too bad.

Now, the company behind this crowdfunding campaign, lushtree, says they hope that this and products like it will catch on and change the negative, odious perception of card gamers. They also have a part in operating “otaku beauty” salons in Japan, so they really are the right people for the job.

Great work. Now, can you get them to wear belts?
