Last week, the U.K. experienced a minor earthquake. While small, the tremor still shocked much of the nation — especially due to the damage it apparently caused. For example, images circulated on social media showed that the small quake caused a major bridge to crumble.

Seeing this image, Network Rail immediately halted services to the area until repairs could be organized. However, when they went to see what repairs actually needed to be done, they found the bridge completely intact.

In short, the “collapsed” bridge image had been generated by AI — meaning a single fake post forced many people to reschedule their lives over a train delay based on computer-generated nonsense.

While everything’s up and running again now, the possibility that things like this can keep happening is pretty worrying. Do you really want a flight to be delayed because someone AI-generated an image of LAX being stomped to a pancake by King Kong? I don’t!
