Trump Says He’s Going to Create His Own Air Traffic Control System

The past few weeks have seen the complete unraveling of America’s air travel system thanks to the government shutdown. And now, as the shutdown appears to finally be coming to a close, some people may have the wild idea that things are going to be back to normal soon.

Well, it won’t. And not for a long time.

Experts warn that the shutdown has driven many air traffic controllers to simply quit altogether. The repeat possibility of not getting paid for weeks at a time also makes the job pretty undesirable for new hires — and even if they could attract new talent, training an air traffic controller takes years.

So, what’s a nation without air traffic control to do? Well, make *another* air traffic control, of course!

In a recent Oval Office statement, President Trump said that our country would be “getting the finest air traffic system anywhere in the world” in the next two to three weeks. This is impressive given that, according to Trump, companies were still in the process of bidding on the contract.

“We’re going to pick the best one, and it’ll get built relatively quickly, and we’re going to have the greatest air traffic control system anywhere in the world,” he said.

So, if you were worried about in-flight safety, don’t be — your holiday flight will be monitored by a tired, unpaid skeleton crew using an unfamiliar system. See? It’ll be fine!
