A Korean court has ruled in favor of the virtual K-pop group Plave, which brought a lawsuit against an X user who allegedly insulted their avatars online. The band accused the defendant of harming their image with derogatory comments that were posted on X in 2024.

The defendant argued that their comments weren’t aimed at the real-life members of Plave, but the court found that they should be treated as though they were aimed at the celebrity themself.

Plave sought a total of $23,500 in damages from the rude X user, though the judge presiding over the case thought $360 was a more appropriate penalty.

That’s roughly $73 a member, and in my opinion, a fair price for getting under someone’s skin.
