If you think you’re dating a celebrity, no you’re not.

A woman recently admitted that she was scammed out of more than $350,000 because she thought that she was dating Squid Game protagonist Lee Jung-Jae.
According to local media, the woman met the “actor” (scammer) online, where he apparently used AI-generated images to seem like the real dude.
“This is actor Lee Jung-jae. I reached out to communicate with fans,” the scammer told the woman — totally normal way to start a very real message. Of course, the woman fell for it, and soon, the two were exchanging messages calling each other “honey” and “sweetie.”
Eventually, the heart of the scam came in. He began asking her for money — first for supposed “VIP passes” that never materialized, then for other items, eventually totalling over $350k in lost money.
Once she hit this amount, she reached out to the police, who told her the dark truth that she had been scammed. Unfortunately, police still haven’t figured out who was really behind the scam, though Lee Jung-jae’s agency has put out a statement reminding people not to send money to people claiming to be the celeb.
In short, if they’re rich and famous, they’re probably not talking to you — and they’re definitely not asking you for money.
