5 Terrible Reasons People Actually Called 911

911 is there to help everybody in an emergency, but one man’s emergency is another man’s fast food mishap. Here are 5 less-than-good reasons people really phoned the police:

1) Facebook Goes Offline
When Facebook somehow stops working as it has a few times recently, people freak out--they don’t know what their friends are eating, what Golden Girl they're most like or where to get spoilers from last night’s “The Walking Dead.” But some people are so upset they call 911, as reported by police agencies all over America. And all of those police say the same thing: “Don’t do that.” And if you called the police over a social media outage, you’re probably a Dorothy.

2) Ate Too Many Pot Brownies
A police officer in Michigan in 2006 thought he was committing the perfect crime when he stole a large bag of marijuana from the evidence room at his station, cooked it up in brownies and ate them. Then he and his wife realized they’d made the pot brownies waaaaaay too strong and they were convinced they’d both died, so the officer called 911 to report that he was dead. When he sobered up later he resigned from the force, possibly to spend his remaining years in the spirit realm forever.

3) Forgot How Car Doors Work
Florida (where most crazy 911 calls come from anyway) 2009, in a year when most of humanity knows how to use a car door, a woman sitting in her car in a Walgreen’s parking lot found herself unable to start the car and roll the window down to relieve herself from the Florida heat and humidity. Panicked, she called 911 and the dispatcher advised th
at maybe she should...manually open the door.

"Open... the door?"

4) Burger King Got Your Order Wrong
Always check the bag before you pull away from the Drive-Thru to make sure they got your order right. But that wasn’t enough for a 22-year-old Pennsylvania woman in 2014. Angered that her local Burger King hadn’t made her Whopper properly, instead of taking it up with a manager, she called 911. And instead of getting it her way right away, she was instead promptly arrested for disorderly conduct.

5) Testing a New Phone
Police from all over the country have reported this one happening regularly as people get a brand-new phone and don’t know who to call to try it out for the first time. For the record, you should not do this--but you’ll know the phone works because the police who show up at your door will let you know.
