4. Curse Of Chucky (2013)

The Child's Play series of horror movies about a murderer trapped inside the body of a doll went downhill after its 3rd part. The Curse Of Chucky shows a whole new quality. Not only is it a classic thriller instead of the cheap comedy horror flick like the spin offs, it's actually one of the best horror movies made recently. The main heroine is a pretty girl on a wheelchair (her legs are paralysed) that has to face Chucky and try to save a little girl from him.

3. The Dyatlov Pass Incident (2013)

If you're into movies about old abandoned experiments, this movie is a treat for you. A bunch of young Americans go for a trip to study the famous Dyatlov Pass Incident. They travel to Russia and get lost in a desolate place. Suddenly someone starts shooting at them and they try to find shelter. They find an abandoned vault and its contents...

2. Sinister (2012)

Many horror movie afficionados would say that most of the modern movies are based on something else and lack originality. Sinister proves them wrong. One of the horror movies which are actually scary, and not because of buckets of fake blood and props. Ethan Hawke is a writer famous for writing about serial killers. He moves to a house in a small town to learn about the murder that happened there. His wife and kid have no idea they moved to the house a mass murderer has chosen to be the scene for his demented torture games. Soon Ethan finds a bunch of recordings of the murders on the attic but doesn't tell the authorities about them. He soon finds out that they are not alone in the house. A true horror movie masterpiece.

1. Chernobyl Diaries (2012)

Chernobyl Diaries is not only one of the best horror movies made recently, but also one of the best movies of the genre. It's one of a kind and can't be compared to any other movie, because its unique plot takes place in Pripiet, a small town next to Chernobyl in Ukraine, home of the famous reactor. A group of Americans come to visit Ukraine and get an offer from a local man - he would show them the town where the workers of the Chernobyl plant lived. As they find themselves inside, their car breaks down and they must spend the night close to the deserted town. As it turns out, it's not deserted.
