Help

As I have stated in the past I am an avid reader and I recently read a book that I would never have chosen for myself. The book was called "The Help" I know there was a recent movie of the same title that was based on the book (again which I would never choose to see), but I gotta tell you I'm damn glad I did read the book.

Let's start at the beginning, I know some  of you will react negatively to the fact that the book examines the life and conditions of black serving women in the early 1960's Mississippi, that's your right. It portrays the good and the bad about the women (black and white) and their relationships centered around the servant employer interaction, but it is more than that, it is also a pastiche of their lives in that day and place. But before you go off half cocked with neegro this or that please give this book a chance. This book is probably one of the best books I've read this year (and I read 2-3 or more per week) . The Author moves the story along at a brisk  pace and manages to advance the plot through the use of first person narrative (from multiple characters) almost exclusively throughout the entire novel.

I gotta tell you I stayed up most of last night reading this book and I feel like a better person for  doing it. I smiled and chuckled and frowned and  was moved close to tears a couple of times. If you read any book this year I strongly recommend you  read this one. It might just make you a better person.
