Shit I Like

I tend to get a little negative and jaded here sometimes (its the Canadian cold...honest) so I thought I'd share with you a few things I really enjoy. This will accomplish a few things: (1) It'll prove I'm not a total asshole (2) It might show how much (or little) I have in common with you (3) Kill some time (4) Serve as a good release for my inner-dork that has been screaming to get out once and a while. Here goes:

-Music: I love almost all kinds of music. Not a real big fan of rap or R&B stuff....but to each his own. My favorites are Johnny Cash, Oasis, Social Distortion, Blur, The Clash, Ramones, Dave Matthews Band, Bright Eyes, Metric, (60s to mid 70s) Rolling Stones, and anything and everything operetta. (That's right...opera music. Deal with it.)

-Books: I'll read anything at all. I have no real preference, save for the classics. My favorite book of all time is Catcher In The Rye---I always carry a copy anywhere I go. I also like horror books, mostly Stephen King stuff. (He's a guilty pleasure read of mine.) I'll read sci-fi, fiction, non-fiction....anything. Right now I'm reading Bravo Two Zero....about a decade too late by most accounts....but its good so far.

-Movies and TV: Movies are my first love. There are too many to name here that fall under my favorites list. (Cool Hand Luke is the stand-out best in my opinion.) Kevin Smith films, Star Wars, Back To The Future, Brokeback Mountain (seriously...watch it before you criticize)...all that shit. Indie films and horror movies are an obsession. Anything zombie or "under-the-radar" are favorites of mine.

I watch too much TV. Most of the shows I watch have been cancelled (Stargate, Space: Above And Beyond, Farscape, Arrested Development, Titus, Joss Whedon-esque shows, etc.) but do watch a fair number of current run ones. Flight Of The Conchords, The Office, How I Met Your Mother, Dexter, Sanctuary, Scrubs and anything Discovery or National Geograpic to name a few.

-I love playing guitar. I don't get as much time to play now as I used to (the job, the kid, the daily grind), but do sit down and knock off a few tunes whenever I get a chance. Sadly, I broke my acoustic guitar a bit back during the move, so I'm down to just the electric. Better than nothing, I guess. I also play a harmonica and a bass, but my favorite is the guitar by far.

-I love taking part in my childhood dork obsessions well into my twenties. Each and every week I download a multitude of comic books for my reading pleasure. Yea, its a little juvinile, but they remind me of a better time, ya know? I have a ever-growing archive of comics on my laptop, much of which is Daredevil (EVERY issue ever printed...oh, yes), Spider-Man, Batman, the classics. I've been really enjoying some of the newer, grittier comics comic out these days. Its nice to see some fresh blood in the creativity pool.

-My job. Its something I've worked quite hard to get, and most days you feel like you want to quit and pack it in, but at the end of it, I'm glad I do what I do.

-Liverpool Football Club. If you don't know what I'm talking about, odds are you're a Chelsea or Manchester United bandwaggon fan. (Shame on you if you are.)

-I love getting outside, walking about, taking the kid to the park....stuff like that. Outdoor activities take up most of our time in the nice weather months. (Her in Canada, that's pretty much the mid-to last week of July.) Playing cricket on Sundays, baseball once or twice through the week...I love being outside as often as posible.

-Smoking.

-Last but not least.....my daughter. She's the best thing to happen to me. There are not enough words to describe how awesome she is. She's changed me for the better, and I love her more than anything else on this planet.

Okay. That's enough for now. If you managed to get this far without scanning, thanks for reading. If anything stands out,let me know. It would be great to know I'm not the only one with an inner dork.

Cheers,

-The Big Bad
