Spring is here and now it's the time to think about cleaning your roof. Though, you are not looking forward to it. 1. Clean the gutters

This includes leaves, dirt, twigs, animal skeletons, and anything else you don't want in your gutters. It's important to clean them at least once a year, or twice if you live in an area that gets a lot of dust or wind.

2. Check the shingles

3. Make sure there are no dips on your roof

Trimming back those trees that hang over your house is more important than you might think. For one thing, overhanging trees can cause a whole host of problems for your roof, including the growth of algae, moss, and fungi on the shingles.

6. Inspect and clean your chimney

If you think about it, the inside of a chimney is pretty dirty. Birds like to build nests in them, and once those birds do, they have no qualms about pooping all over the place. If you have a wood-burning fireplace, soot is also building upon the walls of the chimney every time you use it.

7. Check the skylights and vents

These two areas can cause serious problems if they're not taken care of properly: skylights can allow water to come in, and vents can let moisture out. If this happens, mold can develop and cause structural damage!

9. Look for pests

Now that you know what to look for, keep a watchful eye out as the seasons' change and things start to thaw out.
