Third time is the charm

I am back once again to just fill the page of text which is generally my nonsensical ramblings and attempts at entertainment. I usually will end up failing miserably.

The main reason for my return to this site that once was, knowing that everything I type into this page will become the full property of the company that owns this site, is that I recently had a slight career change. I switched from working in a large corporate enterprise helpdesk to making the internal move into the corporate enterprise information security office. This just basically means that I went from fixing computers directly hands on, to stopping malicious attacks against the company....its a living.

Where this puts me is that I am no longer working incredibly long hours, I have tenureship. I have a high amount of trust placed on me, and I only have to work a strait 80hr pay period which is very nice to get back into having down time again. I have to learn to shift my focus from the processes I was used to because there is a big difference between the new position and the old. I was however lucky to move internally as I have no experience in Infosec, but was definitely a career field that I wanted to be part of and the opportunity to get my foot in the door was one that I could most definitely not pass up.

It also gave me that larger peek behind the curtain at the day to day of the company, because in ISO, your word is the last word regarding just about anything in technology, and when you work for a large technology company, where tech makes the world turn our day to day, you get to play god a little bit when enforcing corporate policy.

This being said though, when you get that peek behind the curtain and get to see the bigger picture of how things are setup and run...you really start to question a lot of things and ask yourself occasionally..."how has this entire system not broken?"

But that is why new faces are always brought in, because perspective change and suggestions for improvement are always necessary. In technology, things progress at an incredible rate, and staying on top of the trends, changes, and new technological breakthroughs is paramount to my success, but nobody can keep up with it all. So when suggestions for improvement are made, it may take a while to get all the cogs moving to make changes depending on how deep of a change it will be, and how much the cost associated is, but everything gets considered.

Eventually, though, the attempts to keep up with everything will become impossible, because if the current speed of technological advancement in the world, sometime within the next 30-40 years we will reach the singularity, and then keeping up with the changes will be completely impossible. Once the singularity is reached, the way we do everything will begin to change.

But, I think I may save that story for next time.

Fun as always,

Godliberator.
