Self-actualization is a funny thing. You never know where you're going to find it. The absolute apex of your existence may come to you just as easily amid the chaos of a war-torn battlefield as it can be stooped over a canvas or chucking a reeking bucket of chum into a super villain's shark tank. It's when the clouds of uncertainty vanish and your life's purpose is suddenly and undeniably clear; you know with every fiber of your being the role you're supposed to play.
It should be noted, however, that this may not mean your best self. Not at all. You could self-actualize as somebody the world would almost certainly be better off without. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't strive to be your most authentic self. And, for better or worse, that's exactly what these people did. Whatever you'll say about them, at least they are certifiably "being themselves." And you know what? Good for them. Those monsters.
