The Rainbow Bar and Grill in Los Angeles was the site of drunkenness, debauchery for some of the most famous names of the seventies and eighties.
The Rainbow was originally the Villa Nova, owned by Vincente Minelli and Judy Garland. Ownership changed hands in 1972, and it was redubbed the Rainbow. After Elton John was spotted there, the bar quickly became a celebrity hang. John Lennon and Alice Cooper were there almost every night in 1974 with the “drinking club” the Hollywood Vampires, who have a mural that still remains on the walls of the lounge. John Belushi had his last meal at the Rainbow, and the heavy metal scene of LA was largely born at the Rainbow in the eighties.
The place still stands on the Strip today, and is a symbol of rock, fame, and weird nights of people drunk on fame.
