Way back in the good ol' days of 2017 a California sausage making company called, MEATMEN accidentally created a viral meme. The company wrote an article explaining why salami is a suitable treat for cats saying, "Cats are expert hunters and have a keen sense of smell, especially in the case of meat... Your cat should be just fine with a couple pieces of salami as a treat."

Shortly after the article was written a user uploaded a meme to tumblr using that quote and pictures of cats eating salami.
