Grigori Rasputin Saw 2013 As The Year All Life Would Be Eaten. Mystic Grigori Rasputin prophesied a storm where fire would eat all life on land and Jesus Christ would come back to Earth to comfort those in distress on Aug. 23, 2013. -

Nostradamus Chose 1999 As The End Of Times. Famous prophesier Nostradamus is given credit for stating the 'King of Terror' would come from the sky in 1999 and seven months, which led to fears of the end. -

William Miller Figured The 1800s Was The Right Time For The End. Although it was not officially endorsed by their leadership, William Miller and many Millerites expected the second coming of Christ to occur on Apr. 28 or at the end of 1843. After Christ did not return, the Millerites then revised William Miller's prediction to Oct. 22, 1844, claiming to have miscalculated scripture. The realization that the predictions were incorrect resulted in the Great Disappointment, which involved violence and rioting. -

Jehovah's Witnesses Saw 1941 As The Year Of Our End. 1941 had a prediction of the end from the Jehovah's Witnesses, a group which branched from the Bible Student movement. From 1966 on, Jehovah's Witnesses published articles which stated that the fall of 1975 would be 6000 years since man's creation, and suggested that armageddon could be finished by then. -

Jim Jones Envisioned A Nuclear Holocaust In 1967. While best known for the Jonestown mass murder-suicide in 1978, Jim Jones had also envisioned the end of the world and made his predictions. The founder of the Peoples Temple stated he had visions that a nuclear holocaust was to take place in 1967. -

Isaac Newton Wrote About 2000 As Our Final Year. Famed physicist and mathematician Isaac Newton predicted that Christ's millennium would begin in the year 2000 in his book 'Observations upon the Prophecies of Daniel, and the Apocalypse of St. John', which would indicate an end to the world. -

Charles Manson Tried To Bring The End In 1969. Famed criminal/murderer Charles Manson predicted that an apocalyptic race war would occur in 1969 and ordered the Tate-LaBianca murders in an attempt to bring it about. Manson based his prediction on his interpretation of The Beatles' song 'Helter Skelter'. -

Pope Sylvester II Announced Jan. 1, 1000 As Our End Date. At the end of the Christian millennium, various Christian clerics predicted the end of the world on this date, including Pope Sylvester II. Riots occurred in Europe and pilgrims headed east to Jerusalem. -

Martin Luther Announced 1600 As The Year The World Would End. The Lutheran founder predicted the end of the world would occur no later than 1600. -

Y2K. The year 2000 was big for end of the world prophecies. There were predictions of a Y2K computer bug that would crash many computers and cause malfunctions leading to major catastrophes worldwide, and cause society to cease to function. -

Christopher Columbus Thought Doomsday Would Happen In 1656. In his 'Book of Prophecies', the Italian explorer Christopher Columbus predicted the world would end during 1656. -

Nuwaubian Nation Predicted Star Holocaust In May, 2000. This movement claimed that the planetary lineup would cause a "star holocaust," pulling the planets toward the sun on May 5, 2000 and end the world. -

Pat Robertson Wrote About Earth's Destruction Being Apr. 29, 2007. In his 1990 book 'The New Millennium', Southern Baptist minister Pat Robertson suggests this date as the day of Earth's destruction. This was just one of a couple times, as Robertson previously predicted the end of the world was coming in October or November 1982. In September 2011, Robertson and several others who incorrectly predicted various dates for the end of world were jointly awarded an Ig Nobel Prize for teaching the world to be careful when making mathematical assumptions and calculations. -

2011 Had To Worry About Comet Elenin. There were fears amongst the public that Comet Elenin, traveling almost directly between Earth and the Sun, would cause disturbances to the Earth's crust, causing massive earthquakes and tidal waves. Others predicted that Elenin would collide with Earth on Oct. 16, 2011. Scientists tried to calm fears by stating that none of these events were possible. -

The Mayans Predicted Dec. 21, 2012 As The End Of Time. There had been a popular understanding surrounding the so-called Mayan apocalypse at the end of the 13th b'ak'tun, based on this being the end of the Mayan calendar. On Dec. 21, 2012, the Earth would supposedly be destroyed by an asteroid or some other interplanetary object; an alien invasion; or a supernova. Mayanist scholars stated that the idea that the Long Count calendar ends in 2012 and spelled doom for the world misrepresented Mayan history and culture.
