Get an inside look at where American education began.
Back in the day, rural communities had to prioritize farming over education, so school was often an afterthought. In contrast with the sprawling school complexes today, many used to be one large room with little more than a chalkboard, some desks, the American flag and kids of all ages.
Learning has come a long way, but it all started in these simple houses with nothing but a teacher and some eager-ish young minds.
