15 Sorta Clean-Shaven Photos Of ZZ Top In The 1970s

Wait, so they weren't born with beards?!

When Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill, and Frank Beard formed ZZ Top in Houston, Texas in 1969, they didn’t have their long-bearded, rhinestone suit jacket-clad style in mind. And yes, to get it out of the way, we fully appreciate the irony of Frank Beard being the only member without a beard.

Speaking of men without beards, we wanted to take a look back at their early, non-bearded days of the early to mid ‘70s. Well, to be fair, Dusty Hill sported a beard since day one, but it was short enough that his older self might’ve jokingly described himself as clean-shaven.

They obviously became synonymous with long beards over the years, but a revisit of their awesome early work made us realize that their beards and talents weren’t directly linked. It wasn’t a “Samson” situation or anything. With that said, here are 15 clean(ish)-shaven pics of ZZ Top’s early years.
