17 1970s Photos Remembering The Early Days Of AC/DC

Electric photos from the Bon Scott era.

When Angus and Malcolm Young saw the term “AC/DC” on the back of their sister Margaret’s sewing machine in 1973, they knew it was the only way to describe their electric sound and stage presence.

Angus was already captivating crowds with his manic version of the Chuck Berry duck walk, but as the Young brothers honed their craft, they noticed that their fellow members — including singer Dave Evans — weren’t bringing that same electricity.

So in late 1974, desperate for a singer, they gave their chauffeur a quick tryout. Completely blowing them away, it was clear that this driver (some dude named Bon Scott) had the frontman skills to match Angus and Malcolm’s intensity.

For the next five years, the Bon Scott-led AC/DC would cement the band’s place in hard rock history and become the foundation of their future place in the Rock & Rock Hall of Fame. Today, we wanted to capture the essence of the Scott era of the mid to late ‘70s. The time before his tragic passing in February, 1980.
