I love so many things about the internet and internet culture, but if there's one byproduct of this era that I simply cannot stand it's definitely the rise of influencers and the influencer mentality in general. I'm not sure who asked these people, or why they feel like they are the voice of the people, but it's often super annoying and super cringy.

Even the word influencer or calling yourself an influencer makes most people within earshot roll their eyes clear into the back of their heads. Don't get me wrong, I'd gladly take the money they are often offered to promote products but to lie to yourself until you believe that it's about anything more than celebrity status promoting a product is just foolish.

The world of these social media mavens is all about appearances and fakery reigns supreme over actual substance and sincerity. Just about everything you see is a shallow lie, and I'm sick and tired of it.
