George Miller worked at a hospital in the 1970s where he witnessed gnarly car accident injuries. After taking that gruesome inspiration and fusing it with the booming Australian car culture, its brutally dry deserts, and a post-apocalyptic twist, he had all the ingredients for a hit franchise native to the land down under.
