When America motorized, entertainment came right along with it.
Halfway through the twentieth century, America experienced a boom in car culture. The suburbs expanded, and there was a need for entertainment away from the walkable city streets and closer to the side of the road. Drive-ins filled this void, and they soon became a staple of American culture. Families and teenagers would park their cars to enjoy a movie, a meal, and the company of their passengers, all without having to exit their rides.
See the now long-gone era of films and food from behind the wheel.
