On August 21st of 1959, Hawaii became the the 50th United State.
Before that, Hawaii existed as its own independent republic until 1898, when it became a US territory.
Despite its tumultuous history under American control, Hawaii remained a desirable tourist destination thanks to its warm climate and gorgeous coastline.
