21 Photos Inside Germany’s Secret WW2 Hideouts

Get an up-close look at Adolf's personal hideouts.

Throughout World War II, Ole Adolf was the most wanted man in the world. Extremely paranoid with a sense of grandiosity, he had a series of elaborate bunkers built that he hid in throughout the war.

The Wolf’s Lair in Poland served as the headquarters for the Germans on the Eastern Front, and it was eventually the site of an assassination attempt on Hitler by Claus von Stauffenberg, who detonated a suitcase bomb in the lair.

The Eagle’s Nest, a fortress on top of a mountain in Germany, was a treasure of the Party, outfitted with a gold-plated elevator and a marble fireplace gifted by Mussolini.

The Fuherbunker in Berlin is probably the most famous of them all, as it was the site of his last stand and eventual death.

See these fortresses as they stood during the war, and their now dilapidated state following defeat.
