Before Tom Cruise climbed up the Burj Khalifa, Steve McQueen took Germans for a motorcycle chase in 1963's The Great Escape. And he looked much better doing it.
An embodiment of the antihero, McQueen shamelessly perused his love for all things motoring, racing on the side while doing most of his stunts as a Hollywood A-lister.
Tragically, McQueen succumbed to cancer in 1980 at the age of 50, but not before cementing himself as one of cinema's all time leading men.
