In August of 1969 almost 500,000 people descended upon Bethel, New York for four full days of folk and rock music, rain or shine.
The Woodstock festival is a defining moment of the 1960s' cultural movement, where people came together through music to celebrate art, peace and hope for a more cooperative and accepting world.
Attendees still talk about Woodstock, and if you want to experience the modern equivalent then your best bet is Lollapalooza.
Beginning in 1991 as a traveling farewell tour for Jane's Addiction, Lollapalooza ran through the 90's before settling on Chicago in 2005 and hasn't looked back.
Now with versions around the world, Lollapalooza is Woodstock with a modern twist.
