Duchenne de Boulogne, a French neurologist, pioneered research of electrical stimulations. He used photography to show his work. Some of his photos look like torture. -

This mummified ship captain was found on a half-sunken ship, which had floated for seven years after his death. His name was Manfred Bajorat. He had been missing since 2009. When they first discovered his corpse they assumed he had been dead for years. But he was only dead for a few days! Full story here -

A tradition in a rural town in the Philippines. The tradition goes back thousands of years: carve out your own coffin, die, and get hoisted up next to your ancestors. Many of the cliffside coffins are hundreds of years old and all look completely different, as they were specially made by the person who now rests inside of them. -

The Gladbeck Hostage Crisis was a bank robbery turn hostage situation in August 1988 after an armed bank raid in West Germany. The media were severely criticized for their handling of this situation and for conducting interviews with hostages, offering tea and snacks. The girl in this picture died from crossfire in a gunfight. -

Beelitz–Heilstätten, was a former German TB clinic and sanatorium and also a military hospital during the first and second world wars. It still is there today. Hitler once stayed here. -

In the 1950s, the Cooper family of Texas bought an old house and moved into it. On their first night there, the father took a photo of Mom and Grandma posing with the two kids at the dining room table. When the photo was developed, a figure which looked like a body falling or hanging from the ceiling had materialized behind them. -
