The Allman Brothers were a Southern rock institution in the 1970s. Despite senseless tragedy that seemed to plague many bands of the era, they carved out a name for themselves with their pioneering brand of bluesy country rock and extended live jams. Duane and Gregg Allman were the titular brothers, accompanied by other talented musicians.
Duane Allman tragically died in a motorcycle accident in 1971, and a year later bassist Berry Oakley died in a similar crash near the same spot. The band survived it and stayed iconic throughout the 70s.
Let these pics take you on a trip back to the days of real rock and roll bands, who got famous through originality and talent, and didn’t let life derail their vision.
