When a movie goes to the rating board and receives an NC-17 rating, it is very unlikely that the movie will be successful as it eliminates a large number of viewers from the audience. Therefore, these movies must be cut and chopped to reach an R-rating so that they can be more widely released and actually have a chance at being profitable.

The Wolf of Wall Street: Too much nudity and sex in the original. Looks like theater go-ers didn’t get the authentic ‘Wolfie’ experience.

South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut: Trey Parker and Matt Stone had to go back and edit this one a few times before getting the R. Apparently they tried to stick it to the MPAA by putting something more vulgar in each time they sent it back. Sounds about right.

Scary Movie 2: This one is a bit surprising, but they say that the original was just too gross and too sexual. That hand though…

Orgazmo: A movie centered around shooting porn, written by Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Again, it’s no wonder this one this one got the NC-17 rating. The only difference here, is that they kept the rating!

American Pie: This classic just had a little too much of everything. Plus, when you have teenagers depicting drug use, sexual conduct, and vulgar language, it’s pretty difficult to maintain a decent rating.

American Psycho: Yep, you guessed it. Too much sex and violence for the big screen. The MPAA would have been “psycho” for letting the uncut version into theaters… sorry for the dad joke.

The Boondock Saints: As intense as this movie is, you bet your ass the uncut version was just that much better.

Clerks: If you’ve ever seen this movie, you know that the entire thing is based off of simple dialogue. However, the uncut version had too much sex sprinkled into the dialogue that they had to tame it down for theaters.

The Devil’s Rejects: Drugs, sex, and too much sadistic violence got this one sent back. It’s pretty apparent why when you go back and watch the unrated version.

Braveheart: The battle scenes here had to be tuned down for the theaters. Kind of a shame too, as the uncut version had to be way more realistic.

Jackass: The Movie - Basically the shit that these guys pulled in the uncut version was too dangerous and crude for theaters. At least they released an unrated version so that we didn’t miss out on any fun.

Evil Dead (Original and Reboot): Yep, both the original and the reboot were sent back for editing for just too much gore. The original was actually given an X rating but in 1990, the MPAA got rid of the X-rating, replacing it with NC-17.

Hostel 1 & 2: This picture was about the only screenshot from these films that won’t leave you slightly scarred. No wonder Eli Roth had to go back and tone these puppies down.

Team America: World Police - Trey Parker and Matt Stone at it again. This time for all the inappropriate things in the world, but involving puppets. Believe it or not, the original version contained a way raunchier version of the infamous sex scene… They can keep that one for themselves.

Requiem for a Dream: Drugs, drugs, and more drugs plus drug-induced sex and a bit of foul language landed this one the NC-17 before it was cut down.

Kill Bill Vol. 1: Too much blood, Uma. There’s already enough in the theatrical version, it’s hard to imagine why there needed to be more.

Casino: Drugs, violence, sex, and language all sent this one back to the chopping block. They must have missed the memo on language as the edited version still contains over 420 occurrences of the “F” word.

A Clockwork Orange: Another one that was originally given an X-rating, but this time just simply for violence. If you’ve ever seen this classic, you’ll understand why it was cut down.

Grindhouse: Gratuitous, obscene, and harsh are just a few adjectives used to describe aspects of the uncut version of this one. When comparing the uncut with the theatrical version, it’s easy to see why it was given an NC-17.
