The subway is kind of like a randomly-generated dungeon in an old school video game. There are certain constraints that ensure it always remains a subway in the strictest technical sense; there is an entry, an exit and -- hopefully -- some sort of subway car system that gets you mostly where you want to go. Everything else is completely up to the random gods of chaos.
